We love all our parent and grandparent volunteers at Hardy Oak! You all truly make a difference. If you are new to Hardy Oak or a returning parent who would like to see how to plug-in to the various volunteering opportunities, please attend one of the Volunteer Orientation Sessions on September 3rd.September 3rd. 9-9:30 am in the cafeteria

Grandparents Day September 5th and 6th

Hardy Oak will celebrate Grandparents Day during lunch times on September 5th and 6th. Please join your grandchild during their normal scheduled lunch. Guests can park in the back parking lot and walk in through the cafeteria doors to get their raptor badge.

**The PTA will provide a Taco lunch for our special grandparent guests.**

Class Basket and Canvas How-to Meeting, September 11th

One of the best parts of the Fall Festival are the Class Baskets and Canvases in the Silent Auction. Come see how you can work with your class and teacher to create one of these items. We will meet to discuss ideas on September 11th at 9:30 in the cafeteria. Please join us.If you already know you want to take on a basket or canvas, you can email [email protected] with your theme idea. If you are interested in helping but can’t make the meeting, please email me and I will send you the information.

Watch D.O.G.S.

WATCH D.O.G.S. is a one-of-a-kind, school based father involvement program that works to support education and safety.

We are currently working on the calendar for our WatchDOG sign-up. It should be out in early September.If you are a dad and are interested in being a WatchDOG this year, please signup for the REMIND by texting @watchdogh to 81010. When the calendar is ready, we will send out the sign-up link via REMIND.

Remember, you must be DPS cleared and wear your WatchDOG shirt on campus. Please also remember to stick to the schedule provided to you for your day on campus.

Spirit Shirt Orders

Please remember to turn in your Spirit Shirt Order Forms by tomorrow, August 30th. You can send the order form and payment (cash or check to Hardy Oak PTA) in with your child.5th Grade shirt order forms can be sent in with your child also.

Meet The Teacher and PTA Sales, August 15th

We are excited to see you Thursday, August 15th for Meet The Teacher! There will be a morning session of PTA Sales to include Spirit Merchandise, PTA Membership, Greenback donation, WatchDog sign-ups and more!

Come in the morning to beat the afternoon lines.

8:30am-12:00pm PTA Sales

4:00-6:00 PTA Sales

Teacher Meet & Greet 5:30-6:00pm. You can bring in your school supplies.

You can park in the back parking lot and enter through the cafeteria doors.

PTA Sales, Membership and Greenback can be paid for by Credit Card, Check, the Venmo App or Cash.

Field Trip Donations can be made via check and cash.

BooHoo Breakfast: 1st Day of School, Aug 19th

Come meet new parents and reconnect with old friends at Hardy Oak’s Annual BooHoo Breakfast.

On the First Day of School, we will meet in the cafeteria after the Flag Ceremony. Breakfast tacos, muffins, donuts, juice and coffee will be served.

We will be making bookmarks for our children to use in their classrooms.

Parents from all grade levels are invited!!!

Fun additions to the school from PTA

The Disbursement funds (money collected above our ’18-19 budget) we used to make some improvements to Hardy Oak this summer. The Cafeteria Stage has a brand new look thanks to Hardy Oak parent, Debbie Mulvehill.The three Filtered Water Bottle Filler Stations were installed. One was a gift from the 2018-2019 5th Grade class.

The Teacher’s Lounge got a fresh new look for the start of the school year.

We are excited to see you this Friday, April 5th for Family Night, 6-8 pm. Grab your poodle skirt or leather jacket and be ready to Shake, Rattle and Roll and make some fun family memories.
50’s gear is optional if you choose…just come and enjoy the fun.

$5 Family entrance fee at the door or a snack item for Camelot.

Field Day T-shirt orders Due April 8th

Field Day is April 18th and the kids will be competing in events to see which
class will win the Golden Sneaker Trophy!

T-shirts are available to order for this fun day! Orders are Due April 8th at 3pm, no late orders will be accepted. Please find order form here.

All Proceeds from the t-shirt sales will go to the Hardy Oak PE Department to purchase new equipment.

A sign-up will be sent out soon for field day volunteers. We will see you out on the field!

Thank you for the Book Donations!

We have received over 1500 books!! The proceeds that Hardy Oak receives from our donations will go to Camelot Elementary. Thank you for contributing and helping out our Sister School.

The NEISD PTA Used Book Sale is April 12-14th at Blossom Athletic Center. The books are all separated by category and you can find some great deals. Stop by and check it out!

The Reflections Ceremony, Multicultural Night and the Staff Appreciation Soup Luncheon were all a great success thanks to the amazing Hardy Oak families. THANK YOU!Congrats to all of the Reflections participants!

All the families that showcased their culture and delicious food and desserts were fantastic!

The yummy soups, salads and desserts for the staff were truly appreciated!!

SVSA Service Project for February & March

During the month of February and March, Hardy Oak Elementary will be partnering with the North Central Baptist Family Partnership Council to provide discharge bags for families of babies who are currently in the the NICU at North Central Baptist.

How can your child help:

1. Signup to bring items to fill the discharge bags:

hang these cards over their babies cribs and incubators. Please turn all cards into the tray in
the office marked NICU cards by March 5th.

3. Join us for our Packing Party after school on March 6th at 3:00 pm in the cafeteria. We
will need help stuffing bags and organizing the cards.

Book Donations Needed

Are you sorting at home?

Hardy Oak Elementary PTA is collecting gently Used Books, DVDs, CDs and Records that will be sold at the NEISD Council of PTAs Used Book Sale. The proceeds that Hardy Oak receives from our donations will go to our Sister School Camelot Elementary.

Please drop off donations in the boxes outside of the classrooms and in the foyer through Friday, March 29th.

Students will receive one SVSA service hour for up to 10 items donated; two SVSA service hours for a donation over 10 items.

PTA Membership for February

Hardy Oak has received many Membership Awards this year from Texas PTA for meeting and exceeding membership levels. Congrats and thank you for your support and partnership!For February we are trying to add 14 new members. Parents, grandparents and even students can be PTA members.

The North East Council of PTA’s operates a Clothes Closet for families in need. They are in need of gently used school clothes for sizes 3T through High School. Here are Donation Guidelines. If you are sorting clothes please keep the Clothes Closet in mind.There is also a need for new underwear, particularly large teen and adult sizes.

There is a bin in the foyer at Hardy Oak for your used clothes and new underwear donations. Thank you.

Thank you Hardy Oak for the generosity and compassion you showed this past holiday season to the families at Camelot Elementary. The 700+ Board Game donations and 88 bags of Breakfast Meals were given from the heart and we all say thank you!

The NEISD Council of PTAs recognized the Holiday Drive program as an outstanding program that stood out from the rest. Way to go Hardy Oak Families, Partner in PTA representative Kim Sims and Student Council for making a difference !

This is a great way for our students to see positive male role models being involved at their school and in their education. WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is a one-of-the-kind, school based father involvement program that works to support education and safety. Please remember to participate in any volunteer opportunity you must be DPS cleared (See Volunteering Link). Watch Dogs must also wear an official Watch D.O.G.S t-shirt to volunteer. Any questions, please contact Mike Miller at: [email protected].Please limit your days to one per child to allow all who want to participate to get a chance. Fall Festival was a fun family night!

The Fall Festival on November 9th was a fantastic night for all of our Hornet families. Thank you for your volunteering, coming out to enjoy the rides and games and participating in the auction. It was a chilly night, but the cool temps didn’t limit the fun!!

A big thank you to the teachers who flossed their hearts out in the Flossing Dance Contest and of course to Mrs. Folkes who was slimed along with PTA President Jenn Shannon by some Hardy Oak students. A great night indeed!

Warm Heart & Full Belly Games Drive for Camelot Elementary

We are asking each child in Hardy Oak to participate in the December sister school collection. We will be collecting NEW games (card games & board games). One NEISD SVSA hour will be given for your donation, you can log your SVSA hours on Skyward. Our hope is that every child at Camelot be gifted a NEW game to be able to spend time with their family this holiday!
Collections begin Wednesday November 28th-Thursday December 13th


**We will be collecting NEW games (card & board games)
**Please send games in that are appropriate for your own child’s age
**The class that collects the most games will earn a pizza party
**Have your child give their game to his/her homeroom teacher

Fall Festival Pre-Orders Due Wednesday, October 31st

The BIGGEST Event of the year is Fall Festival. Here’s your chance to pre-order tickets and wristbands and nominate what staff member you want to enter the Flossing Dance contest.

  1. Pre-order tickets and wristbands to get a discount on tickets and get 2 FREE WRISTBANDS with the Gold Package. Forms due October 31st
  2. Flossing Dance Contest – don’t forget to nominate who you want to see dancing away at Fall Festival. $1 per nomination. Due October 31st

Hornet’s Nest Spirit Store November 2nd at lunches

The Hornet’s Nest Spirit Store will be open on the cafeteria stage during lunches on Friday, November 2nd. The store will have pens, pencils, notebooks and other fun items. Small bills and coins are appreciated. Select spirit merchandise from previous years will be available at reduced SALE prices. All other items are $5 and under.

All students who bring money will be able to shop at the Hornet’s Nest toward the end of their lunchtime. It is a fun way for kids to learn how to handle money and make smart purchases!

Veterans Day RSVP for November 12th

The Veterans Day ceremony and reception is one of the most special programs at Hardy Oak Elementary. We invite all our veterans and their families to a special Veterans Day Ceremony Monday, November 12th 8:30 a.m. in the cafeteria.

Refreshments will be served in the library after the ceremony.
Allow time to show ID and be buzzed into the school and to receive a Raptor Badge.

Please RSVP by November 5th to have a pre-printed badge.

NECPTA Clothes Closet

The North East Council of PTA’s operates a Clothes Closet for families in need. They are in need of gently used school clothes for sizes 3T through High School. Here are Donation Guidelines. If you are sorting clothes please keep the Clothes Closet in mind.

There is also a need for new underwear, particularly large teen and adult sizes.

Kindness Rocks Service Project

How to participate: Find a rock or two from home (please make sure your rocks are about the size of the palm of your hand or smaller) and get creative! You can use paint, markers, or anything you choose! Decorate your rocks with encouraging messages or beautiful pictures to help brighten someone else’s day.

We will use these Kindness Rocks to create a Rock Garden here at Hardy Oak to continue to spread kindness and acceptance all year long!

*Participating is worth 1 SVSA service hour so don’t forget to log your hours in Skyward! PLease see KINDNESS ROCK FLYER for more information.

Life Member Volunteer Service Award Nominations

An Honorary Life Membership Award can be used to thank an individual who acts as a tireless advocate to children’s education, health, well-being. They do not have to be a PTA member to receive this award.

If you know of someone that is deserving, please submit the Nomination Form by October 26th. Include their name and a summary as to why you are nominating them. Our PTA will recognize the winners at our December meeting and they also will be recognized at the NEISD Founder’s Day in February.

Leader-in-Me Game Night and PTA General Membership Meeting – October 2nd

On Tuesday, October 2nd, Hardy Oak Elementary will host the Leader-in-Me Game night. Come enjoy a fun evening with your kids and stay for the PTA meeting.

* Game Night is from 5:30-6:00pm

* PTA meeting 6:00-6:30pm

After the meeting, stay and enjoy the 3rd grade performance of Leader-in-Me songs.

Walk to School Day – October 3rd

Join us in exercising our bodies and hearts for Walk to School Day on October 3rd. This year we will be celebrating Hardy Oak’s helping spirit and commitment to community service by combining our walk-to-school event with sock drive benefiting the NEISD Clothes Closet. Students will earn one SVSA Service Hour for donating to the sock drive.

Details:

What – Hardy Oak Walk-To-School day and sock drive

When – Wednesday October 3rd before school.

Who – you and your lovely family

How – walk with your child or participate in a walking school bus*. Bring a new pair of socks to drop in the designated donation bins!

**Each child that participates will be entered to win a Harry Potter card game. There will be one winner for each grade level! See the Walk to School flyer for entry slip. You can turn in your form to the PTA volunteers at the school on Walk to School Day.

*Some teachers will send out info about meeting and walking as a class, the walking school bus.

On your mark, get set, go! The Bike Rodeo is around the corner. Please see Rules and Information and also the Permission Slip. Each grade will have a specified time to show their skills. Parents are welcome to watch the Bike Rodeo in the back parking lot.

NEISD Service Volunteer Awards

Volunteering makes a positive impact on our community!

Hardy Oak Elementary will participate in the NEISD Student Volunteer Service Award to encourage and reward students who give-back to others.
